- NC citizens do not have the right to collect signatures to put constitutional amendments or new laws on the ballot? The state legislature has sole power over proposing constitutional amendmzents or new laws. Attend the Fair Elections and Redistricting Reform Team meetings to discuss and hear about strategies and actions that LWVODC can take to protect the voting rights of NC citizens.
- In August 2022, the NC Supreme Court heard the Leandro case, which proposes to financially address the critical needs of the NC public school system, for the fourth time since 1997. On November 4, 2022 the Supreme Court issued a 4 - 3 ruling sending the Leandro case to trial court, allowing a local judge the power to transfer taxpayer dollars from government coffers to state agencies to carry out a plan to address longstanding education inequities.
